Tech Lead Manager (AI)

Location: Palo Alto, California, United States; hybrid work

Salary: $200,000–$275,000 per year, plus equity and bonus

What you will do

• Own the technical vision, roadmap, system design, and architectural standards for one or more core engineering teams.
• Write production code, review complex changes, solve technical bottlenecks, and own critical-path architecture.
• Partner with Product and Design on feasibility, requirements, product strategy, and customer problems.
• Build systems that ingest high volumes of social data, run real-time AI agents, and deliver customer insights through analytics and automation.
• Improve testing strategies, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, RFC processes, and post-mortem resolution.
• Manage 2–5 engineers through one-on-ones, performance reviews, career planning, mentoring, hiring, and technical assessment.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience and 2+ years of formal people management experience.
• Strong hands-on, full-stack technical proficiency with deep architectural judgment and experience resolving system bottlenecks.
• Product acumen and experience partnering with Product Managers and Product Designers in fast-paced startup environments.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
• Hands-on experience or deep technical interest in LLMs, AI agents, and modern AI workflows.
• Comfort operating in ambiguous, high-growth environments with changing priorities.

Nice to have

• Experience architecting, deploying, or operating AI-powered or agentic platforms at scale.
• Hands-on experience with React, TypeScript, AWS, Pulumi, Postgres, ClickHouse, or Turbopuffer.
• Technical leadership experience shipping mobile products, ideally with React Native.
• Experience at an early-stage or growth-stage startup.
