Principal Software Engineer (Java/Python)

Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado — 100% onsite

Basic compensation: $142,800–$214,200 annually for the Colorado Springs area.

What you will do

• Lead software development efforts for high-velocity data stream processing systems.
• Define software architecture, technical strategy, and long-term roadmaps for mission-critical applications.
• Translate customer requirements and mission objectives into scalable software and system solutions.
• Lead architecture reviews, design reviews, technology evaluations, and technical investigations.
• Drive the development of highly available, resilient, and high-performance systems.
• Coordinate integration, testing, deployment, planning, staffing, and execution across programs and stakeholders while advising leadership and mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience.
• Advanced expertise in Java, Python, or other object-oriented programming languages.
• Experience designing distributed, high-availability, mission-critical systems and complex data processing, integration, or real-time streaming systems.
• Experience leading software architecture, technical strategy, engineering teams, and full software development lifecycles.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
• Active U.S. Government Top Secret/SCI security clearance and U.S. citizenship are required.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Knowledge of MIL-STD-6016 and MIL-STD-3011.
• Experience as a software architect, chief engineer, or technical lead across multiple projects.
• Expertise in TDD, CI/CD, DevSecOps, and Agile methodologies.
• Security+ or higher DoD 8570/8140 certification.
