Principal Systems Security Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Remote within the United States, excluding North Dakota, Vermont, and Rhode Island; travel to offices in Carlsbad, California, and Reston, Virginia required

Salary: $200,000–$315,500 annually; specific locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area may offer $248,500–$372,500 annually

What you will do

• Architect, implement, and advance security controls across enterprise, cloud, product, infrastructure, and physical security environments.
• Develop secure architectures for ground and space networks with cross-functional engineering teams.
• Lead security reviews, threat modeling, architecture assessments, and security risk evaluations.
• Create and lead information security programs for constructed architectures.
• Provide technical and policy guidance for RMF security accreditation and implement the DoD Zero Trust framework.
• Develop security standards, reference architectures, engineering processes, and risk recommendations for technical and business partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Security, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 12+ years of experience leading complex security engineering and architecture initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of security architecture, defense-in-depth, enterprise-scale security controls, network security, endpoint security, vulnerability management, and infrastructure security.
• Hands-on experience securing Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform environments and using SPRS and eMASS.
• Experience with identity and access management, authentication, authorization, privileged access controls, threat modeling, security assessments, and architecture reviews.
• U.S. Citizenship, an active Top Secret Clearance, and availability to travel up to 20% are required.

Nice to have

• CISSP, CCSP, GIAC, Azure Security Engineer, AWS Security Specialty, or similar certification.
• Experience with Zero Trust, identity security, cloud-native technologies, containers, Kubernetes, platform engineering, SIEM, SOAR, or XDR.
• Knowledge of NIST, CIS Controls, ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS, or FedRAMP frameworks.
• Experience with security automation, DevSecOps, MBSE, and influencing technical direction across teams.
• Experience presenting architecture recommendations to senior leaders and balancing risk reduction with business objectives.
