Category Manager, Metals

What you will do

• Develop and execute global sourcing strategies for the metals category across multiple manufacturing locations.
• Analyze commodity markets, supplier technologies, manufacturing processes, and cost drivers to address supply issues and reduce expenditure.
• Define subcategory segmentation and consolidation strategies, and create cost-saving opportunities through bidding, supplier development, continuous improvement, and transfers.
• Manage supplier performance against cost, quality, service, and delivery objectives, including recovery plans, dispute resolution, and corrective actions.
• Negotiate purchase prices, contract terms, supplier agreements, and recovery of costs related to defects, expedites, and shortages.
• Lead cross-functional sourcing projects and support business objectives related to quality, new product development, response time, risk mitigation, and total cost.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
• At least 3 years of experience in procurement and/or supply chain; 5 years preferred.
• Experience making decisions involving multi-million-dollar contracts and agreements.
• Strong negotiation, strategic thinking, project management, communication, analytical, and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of cost breakdowns, benchmarking, value analysis, value engineering, RFQs, pricing strategies, and supplier profitability.
• Previous experience with metals commodities such as carbon steel, aluminum, or stainless steel is preferred.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of root cause analysis, problem-solving, continuous improvement, corrective and preventive action, quality assurance systems, and supplier performance evaluation.
• Technical or engineering training and experience developing teams with diverse strengths and interests.
