TL;DR
Engineering Lab Technician (Electromechanical): Building, fabricating, troubleshooting, and testing prototype electromechanical and electronic equipment in an advanced development laboratory with an accent on PCB assembly, analog and digital circuits, control panels, and laboratory test equipment. Focus on maintaining lab operations, supporting qualification testing and manufacturing teams, and working safely with industrial drives, controls, and 440VAC systems.

Location: Onsite in Thomaston, Connecticut, United States. The role requires working primarily in a laboratory or manufacturing-floor setting and requires U.S. citizenship and compliance with ITAR access requirements.

Salary: $30–$35.50 per hour

What you will do

  • Maintain the Advanced Development Laboratory, including supplies, test equipment, and facility readiness.
  • Build prototype products and production test equipment.
  • Assemble and repair PC boards using surface-mount and through-hole technologies.
  • Troubleshoot analog and digital circuits, electrical control panels, and related equipment.
  • Use voltmeters, oscilloscopes, PC-based test systems, schematics, and MIL or commercial test procedures.
  • Support development engineers, manufacturing teams, outside test laboratories, and customer sites through testing, training, and technical assistance.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and ITAR compliance are required.
  • Technical school diploma, ASEE/BET, or a similar qualification with mechanical aptitude; specialized military training may substitute for an engineering degree.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, work orders, technical procedures, and production documentation.
  • Ability to work safely with 440VAC, industrial drives, and controls while following PPE requirements.
  • Ability to work approximately 75% of the time away from a desk, stand for extended periods, perform repetitive motions, and lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, communication, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Nice to have

  • Experience with embedded controls, analog and digital circuits, PC board troubleshooting, and surface-mount component replacement.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming, PROFIBUS, and CANbus communication.
  • Knowledge of military specifications, shock and vibration testing, and EMI.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, MS Project, email, and internet tools.
