Director & Senior Counsel, Complex Claims

Location: New York, NY, United States; hybrid. US work authorization required; visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $136,840–$235,235 annually, plus potential eligibility for the Company's annual incentive plan.

What you will do

• Manage a full caseload of the most complex and high-exposure casualty claims with minimal oversight.
• Analyze coverage, communicate coverage positions, and manage related coverage litigation.
• Direct investigations into underlying litigation, develop resolution strategies, and negotiate or settle claims.
• Manage outside counsel, legal strategy, and expense spend while conducting legal research and coverage analysis.
• Evaluate liability, damages, and insured exposure to set or recommend reserves and prepare reports for underwriting, claims, and senior management.
• Advise underwriting on policy wordings and legal issues, present on coverage and US litigation developments, and mentor claims examiners and managers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of claims handling and management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have or be eligible to receive a claims adjuster license.
• Superior claims technical skills and strong knowledge of insurance policy types, especially casualty wordings and coverages.
• Excellent written and oral communication, analytical, problem-solving, organization, and time-management skills.
• Leadership, collaboration, strategic thinking, autonomy, and the ability to perform under pressure; a law degree is preferred.
