Lead Electrical Engineer - Nuclear

Location: Derby, Manchester or Warrington, United Kingdom; on-site 3 days per week with flexible working arrangements.

What you will do

• Lead electrical engineers across multiple concurrent nuclear, energy and safety-critical projects.
• Own electrical engineering deliverables and act as the technical authority for design, grid interfaces and power system integration.
• Direct the design of generation, transmission and distribution interfaces, including single-line diagrams and electrical architecture.
• Oversee protection and control philosophies, grid code compliance studies, interconnection agreements, load-flow, fault-level and stability studies.
• Review vendor submissions and engineering packages, chair technical reviews and support hazard assessments and design verification.
• Provide technical expertise from concept through commissioning, including V&V, Factory Acceptance Testing, integration testing and system validation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
• 7–14 years of electrical engineering experience, including leadership of engineering teams or workstreams.
• Significant experience in power systems or nuclear, energy and other safety-critical sectors.
• Strong knowledge of power systems, protection philosophy, grid code compliance and international grid interconnections.
• Knowledge of system lifecycle activities, including verification and validation, commissioning and maintenance, plus relevant standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 61513 or IEC 61226.
• BPSS security clearance is required or must be obtained during onboarding.

Nice to have

• Czech language skills.
• Experience with Eastern European grid links or electrical and nuclear power plants in former Soviet Union countries.
• Experience on large infrastructure projects with high safety requirements.
• Chartered Engineer status or progress toward it.
