Lead Frontend Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Carlos, California, with 3+ days per week onsite and remote work available on remaining days. All work must be performed in the United States.

Salary: $185,000–$260,000 annual base salary plus equity.

What you will do

• Design and implement React-based features for interfaces handling large-scale, real-time, and historical aviation data.
• Integrate, process, and visualize live streams and archived datasets from multiple sources.
• Architect reusable frontend systems, components, and internal libraries.
• Mentor engineers and raise engineering standards through code reviews and architectural discussions.
• Collaborate with backend engineers, product managers, and UX/UI designers on design and implementation decisions.
• Improve frontend reliability, maintainability, performance, responsiveness, and scalability through automated testing and documentation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building and shipping high-performance, user-facing web applications.
• Deep expertise in React, TypeScript, JavaScript, state management, HTML, CSS, and modern web standards.
• Strong experience with asynchronous frontend patterns and live and historical data streams.
• Demonstrated ownership of complex features or product areas from concept through delivery.
• Ability to set a high technical bar through design decisions, code quality, mentorship, and hiring input.
• Must be a U.S. Person and eligible to work in the United States; visa sponsorship and visa transfers are not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with geospatial or mapping tools such as Mapbox or Cesium.
• Experience with live data streaming and playback systems.
• Experience with video streaming technologies and real-time media delivery.
• Passion for aviation and improving air travel efficiency and safety.
