Principal Product Manager (AI Search)

Location: Redmond, Washington, United States; hybrid schedule with 3 days per week in the office

Salary: USD $142,800–$274,800 gross annual base pay across the U.S.; San Francisco Bay Area and New York City ranges are USD $188,000–$304,200.

What you will do

• Define the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for AI-powered search and retrieval capabilities.
• Partner with engineering, machine learning, applied science, design, research, and product teams.
• Improve information representation, discovery, ranking, search relevance, accuracy, and user satisfaction.
• Establish success metrics and evaluation frameworks for product effectiveness and quality.
• Lead experimentation and use customer feedback and data-driven insights to guide product decisions.
• Balance customer value, performance, scalability, and operational costs while communicating priorities and outcomes to stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of experience in product, service, or program management or software development, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
• Successful completion of the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
• Strong analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and product decision-making skills.

Nice to have

• 2+ years of experience with information retrieval, search relevance, or ranking systems.
• 5+ years of experience building AI-powered products or platforms.
• 2+ years of experience working on fine-tuning projects.
• Experience in product management, software engineering, or data science.
• Familiarity with recommendation technologies, experimentation methodologies, evaluation frameworks, and product analytics.
