Principal Software Asset Administrator (SAM)

What you will do

• Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of commercial software, SaaS, subscriptions, cloud applications, and trial or freeware assets.
• Lead SAM analysts and administrators, provide mentorship, and act as the escalation point for complex licensing, compliance, and contract issues.
• Own ServiceNow SAM Pro and Contract Management capabilities, including software models, entitlements, contracts, discovery data, and configuration items.
• Maintain reconciliation, normalization, entitlement management, reporting, CMDB alignment, and audit-ready data governance.
• Support licensing audits, true-ups, renewals, procurement, invoice reconciliation, chargebacks, financial forecasting, and cost optimization.
• Collaborate with IT, Procurement, Finance, cybersecurity, platform teams, business stakeholders, and vendors on licensing and governance decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Extensive experience in Software Asset Management, IT Asset Management, or software licensing, including experience leading or mentoring SAM or IT asset management professionals.
• Strong knowledge of software asset lifecycle management and SaaS, subscription, and perpetual licensing models.
• Hands-on experience with SAM tools such as ServiceNow SAM Pro and with contracts, entitlements, renewals, compliance positions, and audit support.
• Knowledge of procurement, invoicing, financial tracking, and ERP systems such as SAP or similar platforms.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, stakeholder engagement, data governance, and continuous improvement skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in government contracting or another highly regulated environment.
• Experience developing SAM teams and translating leadership direction into operational priorities.
• Experience with cloud licensing and cost management for Microsoft 365, Azure, or AWS.
• Strong commercial judgment balancing compliance, cost optimization, and business needs.
