TL;DR
Lead Configurator / Integrator (Aerospace): Configuring and integrating rocket engine assemblies and vehicle subsystems with an accent on fluid routing, component packaging, secondary structure, and serviceability. Focus on designing flight-load-qualified mounting hardware, resolving multidisciplinary interfaces, and driving buildable layouts through CAD, FEA, generative design, and AI-assisted tools.

Location: Greater Seattle Area; on-site

Salary: $160,000–$225,000 annually

Company

Building space infrastructure that uses low-Earth-orbit satellites to collect sunlight, transmit energy through infrared lasers, and enable secure, high-bandwidth optical data.

What you will do

  • Own the physical configuration and packaging of engine assemblies and vehicle subsystems, balancing mass, volume, cost, lead time, and serviceability.
  • Design and route tubing, flex lines, manifolds, and other fluid conductors while minimizing pressure drop, vibration exposure, interference, and maintenance access constraints.
  • Design and substantiate brackets, clamps, mounting hardware, and secondary structures for vibration, acoustic, shock, thermal, and other flight loads using hand calculations and FEA.
  • Drive layouts around assembly sequence, technician access, tool clearance, refurbishment, inspection, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Maintain master configuration models, envelope definitions, keep-out zones, and integration drawings while coordinating interfaces with propulsion, avionics, and mechanisms teams.
  • Support fit checks and build activities, resolve assembly issues, evaluate packaging trade-offs, and mentor designers and junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in configuration design, systems integration, packaging, or layout engineering for complex mechanical or fluid assemblies.
  • Advanced 3D CAD proficiency, preferably NX, including management of large multidisciplinary assemblies and production-quality routing and installation definitions.
  • Strong understanding of structural loads, secondary structures, brackets, clamps, and mounting architecture sizing.
  • Hands-on hardware integration experience with direct exposure to assembly-floor constraints and real tool access.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. export authorizations under ITAR.

Nice to have

  • Experience configuring rocket engines or launch-vehicle systems, including propellant, pneumatic, bleed, drain, and vent lines.
  • Experience with AI-assisted design, generative design, topology optimization, or computational layout methods.
  • Knowledge of tube fabrication constraints, vibration and dynamic loads, clamp spacing, and anti-vibration mounting.
  • Background in design for maintenance, human factors, ergonomic access, and serviceability or reuse.
  • Ability to generate and compare multiple configuration concepts through rapid sketching and creative problem-solving.

Culture & Benefits

  • Equity participation.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and eligible dependents.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan, paid time off, and 10 paid holidays.
  • Paid parental leave and relocation assistance if applicable.
  • Daily office lunch and a stocked kitchen with beverages and snacks.
