Lead, Supplier Development Engineering (Aerospace)

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; onsite role with travel up to 50% of the work week when needed

Salary: $128,000–$192,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Lead supplier development strategy and ensure supplier performance meets Terran R production, launch, and compliance requirements.
• Act as the primary technical contact for assigned suppliers and resolve manufacturing and quality issues affecting production schedules.
• Establish supplier performance metrics and scorecards covering PPM, yield, and PPAP timing.
• Lead NPI activities, including manufacturing method selection, supplier evaluation, DFM reviews, PPAP and FAIR approvals, and APQP execution.
• Manage corrective actions, root-cause investigations such as 8D, and compliance verification against AS9100, ISO 9001, and NASA quality standards.
• Own supplier risk escalation and provide technical direction and day-to-day guidance to other engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, or another related engineering field.
• 8+ years of experience in Supplier Development, Supplier Quality, or Manufacturing Engineering, ideally in aerospace or another high-reliability or safety-critical industry.
• Experience leading cross-functional programs across Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain without direct authority over all contributors.
• Strong knowledge of forming, machining, and metal assembly processes for space- or safety-critical hardware, including stainless and carbon steels.
• Expertise with AS9100, ISO 9001, APQP, PPAP, FAIRs, PFMEA, and Control Plans, including implementation and compliance.
• Ability to define processes from the ground up and deploy them across diverse teams.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in a related engineering field.
• Six Sigma Black Belt, ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, or PMP certification.
• Experience with high-volume inspection methods, data-driven acceptance criteria, PLM, ERP, MES, or data analysis.
• Comfort operating in high-ambiguity environments and setting direction with incomplete precedent or data.
