TL;DR
Solar Technician (Solar PV): Troubleshooting, maintaining, servicing, and repairing solar PV systems and associated electrical and mechanical equipment with an accent on safe, efficient, and reliable power plant operations. Focus on preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance, instrumentation and control systems, inverter troubleshooting, and operating solar generation facility equipment.

Location: Onsite in Newburgh, New York, United States, supporting assets in Newburgh and Shoreham, NY, and New London and Bridgeport, CT

Salary: $50,000–$107,000 USD annual salary, depending on job level, location, skills, experience, education, training, and certifications. Eligible for an annual cash bonus.

What you will do

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, service, and repair solar PV systems and associated electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance and operations at solar generation facilities.
  • Execute electrical troubleshooting, instrumentation calibration, inverter troubleshooting, and control system maintenance according to qualification level.
  • Operate PV solar power plant systems, service vehicles, tools, and related equipment safely.
  • Complete maintenance work orders and prepare plant orders, procedures, operating instructions, JHA, PJB, and LOTO documentation.
  • Work independently and with site teams, including flexible on-call schedules, overtime, non-standard hours, and travel as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required for the trainee level, or willingness to obtain one within the first six months.
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, mechanical aptitude, and ability to use hand tools.
  • Ability to work safely in adverse climates and environments, travel as required, and work nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call shifts.
  • Basic electrical knowledge and experience with electrical wiring, safety standards, schematics, and wiring diagrams for higher technician levels.
  • Level II requires at least one year of power plant or PV solar O&M/EPC experience, or qualifying field electrician experience.
  • Level III requires at least four years of PV solar experience or qualifying I&E, I&C, or C&I electrician experience, plus knowledge of instrumentation, control systems, electrical and mechanical prints, and solar plant operations.

Nice to have

  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent journeyman certification or qualifications.
  • Experience with complex analog and digital instrumentation and control systems.

Hiring process
