Solar & BESS Technician I (Solar/BESS)

Location: Onsite at the Waikoloa solar and battery facility on the Big Island, Hawaii, with some remote support work for the Hawaii region and travel to other regional sites.

Salary: $28.50–$34.21 per hour, plus an annual bonus.

What you will do

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and advanced troubleshooting on PV modules, arrays, inverters, substations, and BESS containers.
• Diagnose and repair AC and DC electrical systems while maintaining safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations.
• Support construction, commissioning, punch-list closeout, and transition of new facilities to the operations and maintenance team.
• Coordinate third-party technicians, contractors, vendors, warranty claims, training, and maintenance schedules.
• Complete service tickets, maintenance reports, switching orders, safety permits, LOTO documentation, and inventory tracking.
• Participate in on-call coverage and respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.

Requirements

• One year of solar PV technician experience or three years of power plant experience with utility-scale electrical systems preferred.
• Experience with AC/DC electrical systems, PV systems, substations, relays, switchgear, inverters, and battery storage systems.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards, NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout, grounding, electrical safety, and environmental requirements.
• NFPA 70E and OSHA 30 certifications required; employees must obtain a TWIC card.
• Ability to read schematics and technical documentation, use CMMS, DAS/SCADA, maintenance software, Microsoft Office, iPad, and iPhone.
• Must be able to work in a power plant operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, work overtime, travel regionally, maintain a valid driver’s license, and meet the stated physical and visual requirements.
