Solar Technician Apprentice

Location: US, Charles City County, Virginia; onsite work at utility-scale solar plants and substations

Salary: $26.00–$31.03 per hour, plus annual bonus

What you will do

• Support assigned operations and maintenance activities at solar PV sites and substations.
• Perform or assist with preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on inverters, trackers, combiner boxes, PV modules, and AC/DC collection systems.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems, instrumentation, and basic inverter issues within assigned capabilities.
• Learn to prepare and implement switching and clearance orders and operate electrical and mechanical power plant systems.
• Complete technical documentation, plant procedures, operating instructions, and maintenance records.
• Follow safety and environmental requirements while working independently or as part of a crew.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals and familiarity with electrical safety principles, including LOTO.
• Technical proficiency with personal computers and standard business software.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English.
• Ability to work outdoors and around energized or rotating equipment, hazardous materials, heights, and varying temperatures.
• Availability for overtime, non-standard hours, regional travel, and on-call duty of at least one week per month.

Nice to have

• Technical degree or solar certification.
• Experience with solar system installation.
• Experience with SCADA and computerized maintenance management systems.
