Power Systems Engineer

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco or New York City, with remote work indicated

hirify.global is building an industrial electric grid for the United States using advanced HVDC transmission systems and modular terminals with integrated energy storage.

What you will do

• Specify and design HVDC systems and terminal subsystems.
• Develop and validate subsystem designs through simulation and physical hardware testing.
• Adapt designs to customer requirements, vendor component availability, and project timelines.
• Collaborate with test engineers and technicians to stress-test equipment and improve system reliability.
• Support safe field delivery, deployment, and commissioning of power systems.
• Support planning and execution of critical company engineering programs under a Principal Engineer.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 3+ years of commercial experience in power systems or electrical engineering.
• Hands-on experience with power systems modeling and simulation tools such as PSCAD, EMTP, ETAP, SKM PowerTools, PSLF, PSSE, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
• Experience across the engineering lifecycle, from concept and design through development, testing, deployment, and commissioning of commercial systems.
• Experience with medium-voltage and high-voltage power delivery or generation infrastructure.
• Experience with grid interconnection, utility coordination, applicable codes and standards, advanced power system studies, DC transmission architectures, or islanded power systems.

Nice to have

• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Controls, or Power Systems.
• Experience with harmonic, control interaction, protection, short-circuit, or relay coordination studies.
• Background in data center, AI infrastructure, hyperscale facility, or other high-density compute power infrastructure.
