DC Systems Lead

Location: On-site in New York, NY; Austin, TX; San Francisco, CA; or Seattle, WA

Salary: $208,000–$263,000 base pay annually, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Architect MVDC distribution systems for gigawatt-scale AI campuses, including voltage level, topology, and grounding schemes.
• Own the system EMT model and lead fault and stability analysis for fully converter-interfaced networks.
• Define the DC protection philosophy and build a rigorous safety case for systems operating ahead of mature standards.
• Lead the DC Systems team, establish initial deliverables, and manage technical interfaces with SST and facility electrical teams.
• Drive vendor strategy for SSCBs, converters, and other DC-rated components.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in power systems or power electronics.
• Direct end-to-end MVDC or HVDC system design experience, such as shipboard MVDC, HVDC converter stations, or grid-scale converter-dominated networks.
• Strong system-level understanding of architecture, grounding, fault behavior, and stability in converter-dominated networks.
• Fluency in EMT simulation, especially PSCAD/EMTDC, with experience using simulation to prove designs.
• Experience building defensible safety cases ahead of immature standards, including knowledge of IEEE 1709 and emerging NEC 2026 MVDC provisions.
• Experience leading small technical teams and identifying evidence-based reasons to stop or change a technical concept.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of SSCB and DC breaker ecosystems.
• Depth in DC grounding and insulation coordination.
• Experience with islanded or behind-the-meter systems.
• Participation in standards committees.
