Senior Backend Design Automation Engineer (New Process Node Enablement)

Salary: $149,100–$215,925 USD annually for the Bay Area California market, plus incentive opportunities.

What you will do

• Own the end-to-end bring-up, qualification, and production deployment of backend design automation flows for new process nodes and technology releases.
• Partner with design leads, domain representatives, and technology enablement teams to translate new-node requirements into scalable methodologies.
• Integrate and qualify PDKs, standard-cell libraries, Foundation IP, technology collateral, EDA tool configurations, flow scripts, and supporting infrastructure.
• Develop and run regression tests, resolve flow failures, and support production use, tape-out, user training, documentation, and methodology improvements.
• Help consolidate backend construction, verification, and analysis into a unified design automation environment with managed workspaces and released collateral.
• Collaborate with globally distributed engineering teams and apply AI/ML to regression analysis, debug, runtime and resource optimization, and knowledge capture.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of experience in backend IC design or design automation, including production flow ownership and new process-node enablement.
• Experience integrating and qualifying PDKs, standard-cell libraries, Foundation IP, and semiconductor technology collateral.
• Experience with industry-standard backend EDA tools from Synopsys, Cadence, and/or Siemens.
• Strong automation development skills with Python, Tcl, shell scripting, algorithms, data structures, Linux/UNIX, distributed compute infrastructure, and job schedulers.
