Design Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid

Salary: $175,000–$225,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Build production-quality UI and polished interactions across IDEs, Git platforms, the CLI, and the web.
• Prototype emerging AI experiences, including real-time review, conversational feedback, and agentic workflows.
• Translate high-fidelity designs into pixel-perfect code and contribute technical innovation to product design.
• Own UI implementation quality, including motion, micro-interactions, responsiveness, and edge cases.
• Build reusable design-system components and component libraries across multiple platforms.
• Implement performant visualizations for code quality metrics, dependency graphs, and AI-generated insights.

Requirements

• 2–5+ years of experience in design engineering, frontend engineering, or product design, with a portfolio or shipped work showing engineering rigor and visual craft.
• Strong frontend skills in TypeScript, React, CSS, and animation libraries.
• Fluency in Figma and modern design tools, alongside strong coding ability.
• Experience shipping complex technical products end-to-end in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
• Experience building or contributing to design systems and reusable component libraries across platforms.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills across cross-functional teams.

Nice to have

• Experience building developer tools or working at developer-focused companies.
• Understanding of software development and Git workflows.
• Experience with IDE extensions, Electron, or cross-platform applications.
• Experience designing or building AI/ML-powered interfaces, motion design, or micro-interactions.
• Open-source or design-system contributions.
