TL;DR
Hone Machine Operator, 2nd Shift (Aerospace): Setting up and operating horizontal and vertical honing machines to produce precision aerospace components that meet tight dimensional, surface-finish, and geometric specifications with an accent on blueprint interpretation, GD&T, precision measurement, and AS9100 quality requirements. Focus on maintaining 0.0001-inch tolerances, performing in-process inspections, adjusting machine settings, and identifying nonconforming materials.

Location: Onsite in Torrance, California, United States; 2nd shift, 2:00pm–10:30pm

Salary: $30.00–$40.00 per hour

What you will do

  • Set up and operate horizontal and vertical honing machines for precision aerospace components.
  • Read blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Select and install honing stones, tooling, fixtures, and abrasives, and adjust machine settings to maintain dimensional accuracy.
  • Measure and inspect parts using bore gauges, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and air gauges while maintaining tolerances of 0.0001 inch.
  • Perform in-process inspections, document results, verify aerospace quality conformance, and report nonconforming materials.
  • Maintain equipment and housekeeping, follow safety and AS9100 procedures, and collaborate with machinists, inspectors, engineers, and production staff.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience setting up and operating honing machines.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments and maintaining tight tolerances.
  • Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing standards and quality requirements.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and follow verbal, written, and computer-based instructions in English.

Nice to have

  • Experience in aerospace machining or an AS9100 manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Sunnen or similar honing equipment, including CNC honing.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
  • High school diploma or GED.
