Management Consultant (Financial Services)

Location: Tokyo, Japan; hybrid work with colleagues expected to be in the local office or onsite with clients at least three days per week.

What you will do

• Lead or manage complex consulting engagements, workstreams, and project modules across banking, financial services, insurance, and asset management.
• Structure problems, develop hypotheses, conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis, build models, collect data, and synthesize actionable recommendations.
• Manage, mentor, coach, and develop project teams while ensuring quality and delivery under tight timelines.
• Build trusted client relationships, present findings to varied audiences, and influence executive and board-level stakeholders.
• Support proposals, pitches, contracting, deal execution, client follow-up, and business development; Principals also expand client relationships and generate thought leadership.
• Contribute to hiring, performance discussions, capability building, and a high-performing inclusive culture.

Requirements

• 4–6 years of professional experience for Associates, 6–8 years for Engagement Managers, or 8–10 years for Principals, preferably in top-tier strategy consulting or another project-based, team-oriented environment.
• Deep subject-matter expertise in financial services, with broad exposure or depth in retail banking, corporate banking, payments, wealth, or insurance.
• Experience managing teams or major workstreams and delivering high-quality outputs under tight timelines.
• Experience leading large, complex projects and multiple teams, with a record of measurable client impact.
• Exceptional problem structuring, analytical rigor, pragmatic judgment, interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and inclusive collaborative leadership.
• Outstanding communication skills and executive presence; Engagement Managers and Principals require experience influencing C-suite or board-level stakeholders.
• Principals require commercial acumen and a proven ability to identify, pursue, and win new business and expand client engagements.
• Undergraduate and/or advanced degree from a top academic program.
• Fluency in Japanese at N1 level and English is required.
• Willingness to travel.
