Staff Engineer (Platform)

Location: Boston, Massachusetts, United States; Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; remote and hybrid options are available for select positions.

Salary: US candidates — OTE $175,000–$250,000 USD; Canadian candidates — OTE $170,000–$200,000 CAD.

What you will do

• Design scalable, maintainable, and secure service architectures for shared platform services.
• Build backend services and background workers using C# in a functional programming paradigm or TypeScript.
• Work with SQL and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, and integrate third-party APIs.
• Containerize and deploy services with Docker and Kubernetes while optimizing AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, infrastructure as code, security controls, monitoring, and reliability improvements.
• Mentor engineers, collaborate with Product Managers and Staff Engineers, and resolve complex backend issues across the stack.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software development experience, including distributed systems, platform engineering, and architectural decision-making.
• Proficiency with typed functional programming in Haskell, Scala, C#, or TypeScript.
• Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases; PostgreSQL expertise is preferred.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS or an equivalent cloud platform, DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
• Expertise in application and infrastructure security, testing automation, performance optimization, and third-party API management.
• Demonstrated mentorship, ownership, and problem-solving ability in ambiguous and complex environments.

Nice to have

• Experience or strong interest in applying AI/ML capabilities to production systems.
• PostgreSQL expertise.
