Principal Platform Engineer (AWS/Kubernetes)

Location: New York or Philadelphia, USA; hybrid with at least 3 days per week in-office

Salary: $155,000–$287,000 base pay per year, plus bonus/commission, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Engineer, automate, operate, and evolve platform technologies including GitLab, Teleport, Linux infrastructure, Kubernetes, and cloud services.
• Design and maintain secure, scalable hybrid infrastructure across AWS and on-premises environments.
• Develop Terraform, shell scripting, and related automation to improve reliability and operational efficiency.
• Manage provisioning, configuration, operating system maintenance, access controls, and platform upgrades.
• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure, networking, cloud, Kubernetes, distributed systems, and performance issues.
• Establish engineering standards, documentation, incident response practices, and continuous improvement while mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, DevOps, SRE, or related fields.
• Advanced Linux engineering and troubleshooting skills, including networking, performance analysis, and infrastructure management.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and hybrid infrastructure, including EC2, S3, and Lambda.
• Strong Kubernetes and containerized platform experience.
• Experience with shell scripting, Terraform, Git-based source control platforms, CI/CD workflows, and enterprise platform administration.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without employment-based visa sponsorship; hirify.global does not sponsor work visas for this role.

Nice to have

• Experience with GitLab, Teleport, Sonatype Nexus, observability, monitoring, logging, and incident management.
• Experience in financial services, trading platforms, or highly available and performance-sensitive environments.
• Experience leading major incident response, conducting post-incident reviews, mentoring engineers, and influencing platform strategy.
