Senior IT Systems Engineer, IT Innovation (AI & Automation)

Location: Fully remote within the United States

Target base salary: $125,000–$138,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and deliver complex, business-critical automations and integrations connecting core enterprise systems.
• Build AI-powered and agentic workflows within governance guardrails, including tool definitions, permission scopes, and fallback paths.
• Choose technical approaches for ambiguous problems, document reusable patterns, and communicate options, risks, and tradeoffs.
• Define standards for authentication, error handling, testing, human approval, monitoring, and alerting in collaboration with Security and Compliance.
• Own production incident response, investigate failures, and address structural root causes through automation and improved tooling.
• Support IT Systems Engineers through design reviews, pairing, training, and shared documentation while building relationships with vendors and cross-functional partners.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in automation, integration, or IT systems engineering, with hands-on delivery of business-critical automations.
• Deep hands-on experience with Workato or another iPaaS such as Boomi, MuleSoft, Tray, or n8n, including recipe design, API integrations, and error handling.
• Experience integrating identity and access management, HR, ticketing, and finance systems using APIs, webhooks, and event-driven patterns.
• Experience building reusable patterns adopted by other engineers and developing AI-powered or agentic workflows in a governed environment.
• Proficiency in a scripting language such as Python and the ability to make and defend technical decisions on unfamiliar problems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; ability to collaborate with security and engineering teams and grow less experienced engineers.
