Staff Systems Engineer (Database Infrastructure)

Salary: USD $140,400–$372,300 per year, plus potential bonus, stock, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and build core components of hirify.global’s database platform across self-managed and cloud-managed infrastructure.
• Operate and improve replication topology, failover automation, backup and restore, and cross-region and regional recovery tooling.
• Manage kernel tuning, storage configuration, compute and disk selection to meet throughput, latency, and durability targets.
• Contribute to database fleet capacity planning, reserved capacity strategy, and migrations to new VM and disk generations.
• Partner with engineering teams through database design reviews and translate their needs into platform planning.
• Participate in on-call rotations, respond to incidents, and help evolve the fleet onto Azure.

Requirements

• At least 9 years of relevant software engineering or technical experience, or equivalent experience; degree-based alternatives are accepted.
• Production software development experience in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python.
• Strong expertise with MySQL internals, including InnoDB, GTID, semi-synchronous replication, replication lag, connection pooling, query routing, and production performance diagnosis.
• Experience with production database sharding, shard key selection, and cross-shard query costs.
• Experience writing systems-level production software such as agents, daemons, or operational CLI tooling.
• Experience with Azure or another major cloud provider and managed database services.

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale database infrastructure migrations, replication-based cutovers, and correctness verification.
• Experience with Go, Python, Ruby, or Rust for systems-level work.
