Annual base salary: $75,000–$103,000

What you will do
- Perform physical, optical, and mechanical failure analysis on non-conforming additive builds, machined features, and sub-assemblies.
- Respond to line stoppages and non-conformances by leading quarantine, containment, and detailed evidence collection.
- Coordinate tensile testing, density checks, sectioning, polishing, etching, microstructural reviews, and CMM or optical scans.
- Partner with quality engineers and metallurgists on structured 8D root-cause investigations.
- Analyze laser parameters, powder lot history, thermal profiles, tool paths, machine logs, material certificates, and Device History Records.
- Support the Material Review Board, defect trending, Pareto tracking, and monthly failure-mode reporting.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in quality engineering, failure analysis, or metallurgical laboratory testing in precision hardware or advanced manufacturing.
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or Quality Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Hands-on experience with optical microscopy, fractography, hardness testing, sectioning and polishing.
- Knowledge of basic GD&T and 8D or 5-Why root-cause methodologies.
Nice to have
- Experience identifying metal additive manufacturing defects such as keyholing, lack-of-fusion porosity, delamination, or residual stress cracking.
- Experience with destructive mechanical testing of titanium or nickel alloys.
- Experience with ERP or PLM systems, lot traceability, Pareto analysis, or yield trend analysis.
