Senior Software Developer (Java)

Location: Remote - Missouri, United States; core hours must overlap with both a US-based team and overseas developers.

Salary: $75,000–$85,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Design, build, test, review, and ship production backend code using modern Java frameworks and enterprise engineering practices.
• Own modernization initiatives end to end, from technical design and architecture through production rollout and operational health.
• Provide day-to-day technical direction, coaching, mentorship, and code review for local and overseas developers.
• Establish documentation, async communication, prioritization, and review practices for effective distributed collaboration.
• Use AI coding assistants and agentic tools for scaffolding, refactoring, test generation, code review, and operational tooling.
• Collaborate with product, QA, TechOps, and leadership on platform improvements, operational goals, KPIs, and delivery roadmaps.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience designing and shipping production-grade backend services in Java or a comparable modern statically typed language.
• Production experience with REST API design, integrations, relational database design, and SQL.
• Experience providing technical direction or mentorship, reviewing code, and helping other developers grow.
• Comfort working with distributed or outsourced development teams across time zones, with strong written and async communication.
• Active hands-on use of AI coding tools such as Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar tools.
• Ability to work core hours overlapping with a US-based team and overseas developers.

Nice to have

• Experience with Quarkus, Jakarta EE, Hibernate, MapStruct, Lombok, SQL Server, DACPAC, or container engines such as Podman and Docker.
• Experience modernizing or migrating a legacy Java monolith built with Java EE, GlassFish, or similar technologies.
• Experience collaborating with React teams or contributing to a React codebase.
• Background in ERP, GovTech, regulated software, or public-sector systems.
• Experience with AI-driven development lifecycles, Model Context Protocol, or AI-integrated tooling and agents.
