Sr. Software Development Engineer (Controlplane)

Location: Hybrid in San Jose, California, USA, with in-office attendance 3 days per week

Base salary: $115,500–$165,000 USD annually, excluding bonus, equity, commission, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture, design, and delivery of large-scale control plane and platform services.
• Drive cross-team technical initiatives, align stakeholders, and ensure high-quality delivery.
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks, reliability risks, and architectural gaps across distributed systems.
• Improve system performance, observability, availability, security, and long-term maintainability.
• Conduct design and code reviews, establish engineering standards, and mentor senior engineers.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI-assisted engineering workflows, to improve developer productivity and product delivery.

Requirements

• 3+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience building large-scale distributed systems and backend platform services.
• Deep expertise in system design, microservices architecture, API design, data modeling, and highly available fault-tolerant production services.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Go, Python, or another modern programming language.
• Experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams and influencing engineering direction.
• Understanding of cloud-native technologies, observability, reliability engineering, and secure software development.
• Active exploration and practical use of AI tools to improve workflows and problem-solving.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-assisted incident analysis, developer copilots, intelligent automation, or ML/LLM-powered platform capabilities.
• Experience building control plane, policy, identity, security, or other mission-critical platform systems in SaaS or cybersecurity.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and serving as a technical leader for architecture and operational excellence.
