Principal Software Engineer (Cortex Platform)

Location: Santa Clara, California, United States of America; hybrid work with most teams working from the office full time.

Annual base salary: $147,000–$237,500, with potential bonus and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Lead backend feature and component development from design through deployment, testing, and maintenance.
• Build and scale core backend services and shared infrastructure for Cortex products including XSOAR, XDR, and XSIAM.
• Collaborate across engineering teams to design integrated product solutions.
• Drive code reviews, design reviews, architectural decisions, and technical excellence.
• Resolve production issues, improve platform stability, and simplify complex systems.
• Mentor junior engineers and support technical growth across the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience developing scalable server-side applications.
• 7+ years of hands-on programming experience with Go and/or Python.
• Experience with major cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
• Deep understanding of microservices architecture, including Kubernetes, Docker, or serverless technologies.
• Strong computer science fundamentals and experience with distributed computing concepts such as the CAP theorem, master election, and distributed databases.

Nice to have

• Experience with big-data architectures and Kafka, Splunk, or Flink.
• Hands-on experience with SQL and NoSQL databases such as BigQuery or Elasticsearch.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity, information security, or software security principles.
