MEP Commissioning Engineer

Location: United States; office address in Boston, Massachusetts, with the role described as joining the building commissioning team in New York City. Periodic field visits and on-site equipment testing are required.

What you will do

• Execute commissioning, retro-commissioning, measurement and verification, and inspection services.
• Review and help develop Owner’s Project Requirements, Bases of Design, commissioning plans, checklists, functional performance tests, systems manuals, and related reports.
• Review MEP drawings and specifications to support energy efficiency and reliable building operation.
• Conduct field visits, observe installation quality and progress, and direct functional testing of HVAC and other MEP equipment and systems.
• Collect and analyze energy-use data and identify potential energy savings.
• Manage commissioning projects from inception through close-out.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent foreign degree, plus two years of training in mechanical systems, building design, and construction.
• At least 7 years of experience in the building industry or environmental sciences.
• At least 5 years of familiarity with the commissioning process under ASHRAE Standard 202-2018 and Guideline 0-2019.
• Knowledge of high-performance building technologies, MEP systems, building automation, NYC building and energy codes, ASHRAE standards, and LEED standards.
• Experience with complex design and construction documents, equipment start-up, Test & Balance processes, functional testing, and commissioning or construction software.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, technical ability, attention to detail, and the ability to manage schedules independently.

Nice to have

• Experience in MEP or renewable energy design, evaluation, construction, building operations, testing, or verification.
• PE, CxA, LEED AP Green Associate, or LEED AP specialty credential.
