Fund Accounting Manager (Venture Capital)

Location: Los Altos, California, United States. Hybrid workplace; remote work is possible.

Salary: $150,000–$170,000 per year for California-based roles, plus an annual cash bonus structure.

What you will do

• Execute capital calls and distributions, including calculations, notices, data verification, and related fund and portfolio investment wires.
• Reconcile bank accounts and prepare month-end, quarterly, and fund-of-funds closing entries and journal entries.
• Reconcile portfolio company data with cap tables, valuation records, and the general ledger while maintaining accurate Statements of Investments.
• Maintain fund accounting software and related systems to protect the completeness, accuracy, and consistency of fund and portfolio data.
• Build, maintain, and audit American and European waterfall models for fund distributions, carried interest, and hurdle rates.
• Coordinate tax documentation and preparers, prepare limited partner and parent company reporting, and respond to investor inquiries about fund statements, contributions, distributions, and K-1s.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional accounting experience, ideally including 4+ years of direct fund accounting experience at a venture capital, private equity, or alternative investment firm.
• Advanced Google Workspace and Excel skills, including building, debugging, and auditing complex financial models.
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
• Strong GAAP accounting knowledge and experience with detailed fund operations and financial workflows.
• Ability to explain complex tax, financial, and legal concepts to diverse stakeholders and manage multiple priorities with integrity and discretion.
• Experience with Carta, Investran, eFront, or similar fund accounting platforms is preferred; a CPA is highly desirable.
