Senior Earthing & Bonding Engineer

What you will do

• Deliver detailed earthing and bonding designs for HV substations, stations, tunnels, and linewide rail systems.
• Conduct soil resistivity modelling, step and touch potential assessments, earthing grid optimisation, CDEGS modelling, and traction return and stray current studies.
• Develop lightning protection, surge protection, and equipotential bonding systems.
• Produce calculations, layouts, schematics, grid models, and installation documentation while ensuring compliance with applicable standards.
• Coordinate with electrical, protection, structural, civil, contractor, supplier, and client stakeholders throughout design and delivery.
• Support site investigations, testing, design reviews, constructability workshops, QA, proposals, and standardisation of national earthing practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a Washington Accord-accredited program or equivalent.
• Proven experience delivering earthing, bonding, and lightning protection systems for rail, substations, utilities, or major infrastructure.
• Proficiency in CDEGS, SESShield, or similar earthing modelling software.
• Strong understanding of traction return systems, stray current control, and metallic asset bonding.
• Ability to interpret utility standards, rail safety requirements, national electrical codes, and project-specific standards, including AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 7000, AS 2067, and ENA guidelines.
• Strong communication, stakeholder coordination, prioritisation, and deadline-management skills.

Nice to have

• Chartered status such as CPEng, RPEQ, or RPEV, or progress toward attainment.
• Experience working with DNSPs, TNSPs, or rail operators such as MTM, ARTC, or Sydney Metro.
