TL;DR
Automation Engineer I/II (Process Control Systems): Supporting and improving process control systems for pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment and processes with an accent on automation standards, equipment connectivity, compliance, and risk management. Focus on coordinating system changes, executing maintenance and improvement plans, supporting audits, and solving moderately complex cross-functional engineering problems.

Location: Lexington, Massachusetts and Clayton, North Carolina, United States. On-site work in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment; travel up to 10% may be required.

What you will do

  • Maintain and improve process control systems for existing and new equipment and manufacturing processes.
  • Coordinate automation plans and execution with manufacturing schedules, business stakeholders, project teams, and equipment vendors.
  • Define equipment specifications and requirements to ensure connectivity with local manufacturing systems and compliance with global standards.
  • Support automation projects, audits, inspections, change management, and the development of SOPs and maintenance procedures.
  • Apply systematic problem-solving, process improvement, project management, cLEAN®, and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Implement automation-related updates while following quality, safety, environmental, and risk-management requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field from an accredited university.
  • At least three years of engineering experience in process-based manufacturing, utilities, or packaging systems.
  • Knowledge of SAP EM, PLC, DCS/SCADA, MES, Oracle, MS SQL databases, Historian, and general controls.
  • Ability to plan, organize, execute, and revise engineering activities for moderately complex cross-functional problems.
  • Ability to work in an open office environment and travel up to 10% of the time.

Nice to have

  • Associate’s degree with at least five years of relevant engineering experience, or a high school diploma/GED with at least seven years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience with SAP EWM and warehouse automation equipment, including automated storage and retrieval systems, automated guided vehicles, autonomous mobile robots, and conveyor systems.
  • Experience with planning and executing engineering activities, cLEAN®, and Six Sigma methodologies.
