TL;DR
Environmental Project Manager (Certified Asbestos Consultant) (Hazardous Building Materials): Managing asbestos, lead-based paint, PCB, microbiological, and other hazardous building materials assessments, abatement, and compliance projects with an accent on technical oversight, regulatory compliance, and client coordination. Focus on preparing abatement specifications and technical reports, conducting air monitoring and clearance sampling, and managing project schedules, budgets, and multidisciplinary stakeholders.

Location: Irvine, California, USA; in-office with the possibility of one remote day per week

Salary: $110,000–$130,000 per year, depending on experience

What you will do

  • Manage hazardous building materials surveys, assessments, abatement, and compliance projects for commercial, industrial, institutional, and public-sector clients.
  • Conduct investigations involving asbestos, lead-based paint, PCBs, microbiological hazards, and other hazardous building materials.
  • Prepare technical reports, abatement specifications, work plans, operations and maintenance plans, scopes of work, cost estimates, and proposals.
  • Provide abatement monitoring, oversight, air monitoring, and clearance sampling services.
  • Review architectural drawings and construction documents, coordinate with clients, contractors, laboratories, and regulators, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Manage schedules, budgets, deliverables, and client expectations while mentoring junior staff and supporting business development.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience performing and managing hazardous building materials projects.
  • Experience with asbestos, lead-based paint, PCB, microbiological, and related hazardous materials surveys and abatement projects.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including California air district requirements and SCAQMD Rule 1403.
  • California Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC) or Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST) certification required.
  • Applicable California lead certifications required.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, organizational, and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and on multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

  • Associate's degree in environmental science, industrial hygiene, occupational health, engineering, or a related field.
  • Lead Inspector, Lead Assessor, Lead Project Monitor, or Lead Sampling Technician certification.
  • Experience with subsurface investigations involving soil, soil vapor, and groundwater.
  • Consulting, client management, proposal preparation, and business development experience.
