Engineering Manager, SDET - AI Detection and Response (AIDR) (Hybrid)

Location: USA - Sunnyvale, CA; hybrid work with 2–3 days per week onsite

Base salary: $140,000–$215,000 per year, with eligibility for bonuses and equity grants.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, hire, and develop a team of SDETs while remaining hands-on with coding, test frameworks, tooling, and debugging.
• Own functional, performance, contract, chaos, and resilience testing strategy for the AI Detection and Response platform.
• Build enterprise-grade automation validating systems from thousands to millions of requests per second.
• Investigate distributed production failures, trace service calls, identify root causes, and create regression tests.
• Define CI/CD quality gates and partner with backend, UI, and product engineering leaders on quality standards.
• Improve observability, monitoring, service operations, and AI-assisted testing workflows.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software development or SDET experience, including 3+ years leading engineering management or quality engineering teams.
• Strong hands-on coding and debugging skills for complex distributed systems, race conditions, and performance bottlenecks.
• Expertise in at least one of Go, Python, Java, or JavaScript/TypeScript; Go is the primary backend language.
• Experience with cloud SaaS or service-oriented systems, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, cloud platforms, and containerized environments.
• Experience with test frameworks, REST or gRPC APIs, high-volume data systems, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment validation.
• Strong people leadership and communication skills, including hiring, team development, and quality strategy alignment.

Nice to have

• Cybersecurity product experience and knowledge of AI/ML security threats and mitigations.
• Experience with chaos engineering, resilience testing, UI automation, performance testing, and load generation.
• Experience with OCI, GCP, Azure, Kafka or Pulsar, and AI or agentic testing tools.
• Experience managing shared testing infrastructure or building quality engineering culture from the ground up.
