Lab Manager - Construction Materials Testing (Construction Materials Testing)

What you will do

• Set up and manage daily operations for a new geotechnical and construction materials testing laboratory.
• Supervise staff, oversee testing procedures, and submit testing results and reports to public and private clients.
• Manage laboratory workloads, deadlines, KPIs, billing information, and workflow bottlenecks.
• Maintain the Quality Management System and ensure testing complies with AASHTO and FDOT accreditation requirements.
• Oversee equipment calibration, maintenance, upgrades, procurement, troubleshooting, and repairs.
• Ensure laboratory safety, cleanliness, inventory control, specimen and chemical handling, and SOP compliance.

Requirements

• BA/BS in a related discipline or equivalent experience; a degree in civil engineering is preferred.
• 5–10 years of experience leading and motivating a laboratory or technical group.
• Experience with process-driven operations and people management.
• Experience in soil and rock laboratory work is preferred.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• ACI and FDOT/CTQP certifications must be obtained within one year of starting if not already held.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Mechanical aptitude for equipment troubleshooting and repairs.
