SR Machinist (Defense)

Location: On-site in Columbia, Maryland, United States

Salary: $75,000–$95,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Program, set up, and operate CNC and manual milling machines and lathes.
• Manufacture high-tolerance mechanical prototypes, engineering models, and precision components from drawings, sketches, and samples.
• Interpret complex blueprints, GD&T specifications, and engineering drawings to plan sequential machining operations.
• Write and import Mastercam numerical code, assigning tool paths, feed rates, and cutting parameters.
• Machine metals, plastics, nylon, composites, and other materials with complex machining characteristics.
• Perform fabrication processes with hand and power tools while supporting prototype development and low-volume production.

Requirements

• Ability to obtain and maintain an interim secret clearance.
• Six years of related experience as a senior-level machinist.
• Experience operating Haas VF series milling machines.
• Experience operating Haas TL lathes.
• Ability to work independently with limited direction from engineers.
• Compliance with safety standards and company policies.

Nice to have

• Associate degree or technical certification in machining or manufacturing technology.
• Experience with CAD/CAM software, including Mastercam.
• Experience in aerospace, defense, or high-precision manufacturing environments.
