Principal Software Development Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Hybrid role based in San Jose, California, USA

Base salary: $185,500–$265,000 USD annually, excluding bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and optimize networking and security features for high-performance applications.
• Create design and functional specifications, perform unit testing, and automate quality assurance.
• Apply software design principles and troubleshooting expertise to improve scalable and resilient Zero Trust Security Services.
• Work with engineering architects, product managers, customers, and solution architects to understand use cases, review product requirements, and resolve system issues.
• Improve system performance and develop innovative features with cross-functional teams.
• Coach junior engineers and ensure high-quality deliverables and compliance with FIPS, FedRAMP, Common Criteria, and SOC2.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in system engineering for high-performance networking.
• Expertise in Linux kernel-based L2/L3 networking, stateful firewalls, NAT, network drivers, BGP, OSPF, PIM, VLAN, DHCP, DNS, SSL, DTLS, QUIC, IPsec, GRE, and WireGuard.
• Proficiency in Go and Python, with strong debugging and problem-solving skills for complex data path issues.
• Foundational understanding of AI/ML technologies and experience leveraging, securing, or positioning AI-driven solutions.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for designing scalable systems in a high-accountability environment.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating AI/ML frameworks or intelligent data path analysis models for kernel-level networking optimization and predictive threat detection.
• Experience with WireGuard, GRE, L2VPN, VRRP, FIPS, FedRAMP, TLS, DTLS, and QUIC.
• Familiarity with AWS or Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, virtualization, and security solutions.
