Clinical Subject Matter Expert (Remote)

Location: Fully remote within the United States; reliable connectivity is required during core Eastern Time business hours. Ability to obtain and maintain a favorably adjudicated VA Public Trust background investigation is required.

Salary: $110,000–$130,000 annually

What you will do

• Serve as the clinical and operational authority for VA community care referral and care coordination workflows.
• Document end-to-end workflows, including eligibility, authorization, triage, scheduling, provider documentation exchange, follow-up, and episode closeout.
• Translate clinical and operational knowledge into user stories, acceptance criteria, business rules, decision tables, and process diagrams.
• Review designs and sprint demonstrations, ensuring system behavior reflects VHA policies and field procedures.
• Define and execute clinical user acceptance testing using real-world case scenarios.
• Define reporting and dashboard requirements and bridge clinical intent with data and analytics teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience, or equivalent experience.
• Registered Nurse with 5+ years of clinical healthcare experience, or equivalent experience, and an active unrestricted U.S. state or territory RN license.
• At least two years of recent hands-on experience in VA community care referral coordination, consult management, scheduling, or eligibility and authorization.
• Daily working experience with HSRM and VistA/CPRS, or Millennium/PowerChart Referral Management at a federal electronic health record site.
• Working knowledge of the Consult Toolbox, standardized episodes of care, Request for Services, VHA Directives 1230–1232, the Community Care Field Guidebook, and MISSION Act eligibility standards.
• Ability to work remotely from the United States during core Eastern Time business hours and obtain a VA Public Trust clearance.

Nice to have

• BSN or graduate degree in nursing, health informatics, healthcare administration, or public health.
• Experience with system design, requirements definition, user stories, user acceptance testing, or agile ceremonies.
• Experience across multiple community care functions or VA electronic health record environments.
• Experience with community care reporting and dashboards, including EPRS, VSSC, Power BI, Tableau, or CDW-sourced reporting.
• Nursing informatics, Scrum, SAFe, Lean, Six Sigma, or project management certification.
