Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, California or Washington, DC; at least 3 days per week in the office

What you will do

  • Lead government and regulatory investigations, inquiries, civil investigative demands, subpoenas, and information requests from initial contact through resolution.
  • Manage Congressional investigations and represent Anthropic in interactions with regulators and enforcement staff.
  • Scope and negotiate agency requests, coordinate document collection and production, prepare witnesses, and draft written responses and submissions.
  • Manage outside counsel and collaborate with technical, product, policy, and business teams to evaluate risk and develop resolution strategies.
  • Advise colleagues on regulatory considerations for product launches, partnerships, and business practices.
  • Build scalable playbooks, processes, and tools for regulatory responses while supporting civil litigation and other legal matters.

Requirements

  • JD from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • Substantial experience managing government or regulatory investigations and responding to formal information requests.
  • Experience working with technology companies or technical clients.
  • Strong communication, legal writing, analytical, and risk-assessment skills.
  • Experience managing outside counsel and coordinating large information requests across an organization.
  • Ability to work from the San Francisco or Washington, DC office at least 3 days per week.

Nice to have

  • 8–12 years of legal practice combining global-focused law firm and in-house experience.
  • Experience with federal agencies, state attorneys general, international regulators, or regulatory enforcement agencies.
  • Knowledge of competition and antitrust, cybersecurity, privacy, civil litigation, or AI-specific regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience building regulatory-response processes at a growth-stage company.
