Principal Software Engineer, Java (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, CA; hybrid work model with in-office attendance required on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Remote placement will not be considered. Local hours are Pacific Time, with flexibility across time zones when necessary. Travel to hirify.global offices or other locations may be required. Relocation is offered based on actual job level.

Salary: $197,000–$232,000 target annual base salary, with potential eligibility for equity and an annual bonus.

What you will do

• Set the architecture and technical direction for the Dynamic Application Platform, including scalable patterns and engineering standards.
• Design and build core platform services with Java and Spring Boot while remaining hands-on in production code.
• Own platform reliability, availability, performance, orchestration, graph-engine hardening, and integrations with downstream services.
• Lead complex technical initiatives from system design through delivery and modernize the platform foundations.
• Drive shared architecture alignment across consumer product teams and translate business goals into technical strategy and roadmap.
• Apply AI to design, development, review, and platform capabilities while establishing responsible-use standards.

Requirements

• 10+ years of backend software engineering experience and a bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Deep expertise in Java and Spring Boot, with strong AWS experience and knowledge of relational and NoSQL data stores.
• Experience designing distributed systems for high availability and resilience at consumer scale, including clean, versioned APIs and service contracts.
• Ability to model complex application logic as workflows, graphs, state machines, or configuration.
• Strong system-design and technical-strategy skills combined with hands-on engineering experience.
• Ability to mentor senior engineers and build alignment across teams through influence.

Nice to have

• Experience in financial services, lending, or another regulated domain.
• Experience building graph-based, workflow, or rules-engine orchestration platforms.
