Senior Backend Engineer (Java)

Location: Hybrid, with 3 days onsite in hirify.global offices in Chicago, Illinois; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Atlanta, Georgia; or Jacksonville, Florida.

Salary: $122,820.00–$208,790.00 per year.

What you will do

• Lead technical design for Java and Spring Boot services, REST APIs, integrations, and microservices.
• Develop secure, scalable backend code and integrate services with PostgreSQL, Redis, ActiveMQ, and Temporal.
• Provide estimates, guide sprint planning, balance product features with technical debt, and coordinate service dependencies.
• Assign and unblock work, conduct complex code reviews, mentor engineers, and improve team coding practices.
• Partner with product managers, architects, QA, and other teams on releases, deployments, environments, and quality strategies.
• Troubleshoot distributed production issues, lead post-mortems, and promote AI-assisted engineering practices.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience with deep backend expertise.
• Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, microservices, and service-oriented architecture.
• Experience with distributed systems, performance tuning, scalability, event-driven systems, and data stores.
• Experience leading engineering teams or serving as a Tech Lead, including mentoring, code reviews, and technical strategy.
• Experience with several environment technologies, including Micronaut, Temporal, ActiveMQ, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kubernetes, AWS, Jenkins, Git, or React.
