TL;DR
Lead Power System Electrical Engineer (Aerospace): Leading the electrical power systems engineering team and developing power generation, storage, conversion, and distribution systems for planetary rovers with an accent on spacecraft power architecture, solar arrays, batteries, and vehicle power budgets. Focus on owning the Electrical Power Subsystem, integrating and testing components, and solving fault-protection, space-environment, and mission-operations challenges.

Location: Hybrid role based in the Hawthorne, California office, United States

Salary: $177,000–$230,000 per year

What you will do

  • Own the Electrical Power Subsystem from unit-level definition through system architecture, power analysis, integration testing, commissioning, and operations.
  • Build and lead the Power Systems Engineering team.
  • Define power functions, unit requirements, interfaces, and procurement oversight for solar arrays, batteries, and related components.
  • Own vehicle power budgets, including system loads, solar-array and battery sizing, and operational power modes.
  • Support power transmission strategy, electro-mechanical components, and integration testing.
  • Collaborate with Mission Operations, Software, and engineering teams on mission planning, power modes, and rover operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field.
  • 10+ years of spacecraft power systems engineering experience with proven flight experience.
  • 2+ years of team leadership experience.
  • Expertise in solar-array design, solar power conversion, batteries, battery management, and safety factors.
  • Familiarity with power conversion and distribution, basic SPICE and Excel circuit analysis, and electronic lab equipment.
  • Experience with fault protection and space-environment effects, including radiation impacts and mitigations.
