Senior Staff Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Hybrid, based out of the Oakland office, California, United States

Salary: $232,338–$290,422 USD annually

What you will do

• Develop and debug backend code to identify and resolve product performance issues.
• Analyze production workloads, system metrics, and performance data to identify bottlenecks.
• Build proof of concepts and turn successful approaches into performance and efficiency improvements.
• Build and maintain a platform focused on product performance, resilience, and quality.
• Partner with developers, Product, SRE, and other cross-functional teams on strategy, reliability, and best practices.
• Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, and code reviews.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on software industry experience solving complex engineering problems.
• Experience architecting reliable distributed systems, especially high-volume data management systems.
• Experience building backend services and data systems.
• Strong knowledge of Java and databases, algorithms, and data structures.
• Experience with the listed technology stack, including JUnit, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, Terraform, WireMock, RestAssured, Bazel, and Buildkite.

Nice to have

• Performance engineering experience, including analyzing, troubleshooting, and automating workloads on large-scale systems.
• Experience with cloud warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Databricks.
• Familiarity with system-level programming, process and memory management, and inter-process communication.
• Knowledge of observability tools such as New Relic, Splunk, or Datadog.
