Senior Mechanical Engineer (UAVs)

Location: Teal Drones, Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. ITAR/EAR-restricted work requires proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residence and candidates must not require sponsorship for export-restricted work authorization.

What you will do

• Own mechanical design and detailed implementation of product subsystems from concept through sustaining engineering.
• Develop system architectures, layouts, component designs, CAD models, drawings, GD&T, and BOMs.
• Perform structural FEA, vibration and modal analysis, thermal and heat transfer analysis, and correlate results with physical testing.
• Design injection-molded plastic components and lead trade studies covering materials, architectures, tooling, and manufacturing processes.
• Support prototypes, verification and validation, production readiness, supplier reviews, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across Electrical, Software, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
• Strong experience designing complex mechanical systems and components for production.
• Expertise in structural FEA, vibration analysis, modal testing correlation, heat transfer, and thermal management.
• Proven experience with injection-molded plastic components, metals, plastics, fasteners, adhesives, and surface treatments.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks, PDM, PLM systems, engineering documentation, and production ramp support.

Nice to have

• Supplier tooling reviews and injection mold qualification experience.
• Previous avionics or UAV experience.
• Propulsion systems experience, including propeller design and motor selection.
