What you will do
- Design thermal management and inlet/exhaust ducting systems for prototype aircraft powertrain components, including generators and turboshaft engines.
- Collaborate with aerothermal analysts, structural analysts, powertrain engineers, and airframe teams to optimize performance and ensure strength, stiffness, fatigue, and integration requirements.
- Own prototype development from requirements, CAD design, bills of materials, procurement, and assembly through testing.
- Select and integrate pumps, lines, fittings, sensors, and appropriate commercial off-the-shelf solutions.
- Perform handbook calculations and FEA to verify system performance and component margins.
- Create and review technical drawings, manufacturing plans, specifications, and verification testing strategies, including DO-160G testing.
Requirements
- 5+ years of engineering experience and a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience integrating thermal systems or air-breathing turbomachinery.
- Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or NX and the ability to manage complex assemblies in Teamcenter.
- Familiarity with aerospace hardware and fastener standards, metallic parts, machined components, sheet metal, and weldments.
- Proficiency in FEA using tools such as NASTRAN, ANSYS, or Abaqus.
- Fluency in GD&T, manufacturing drawings, and hands-on work involving carbon composites, sheet-metal ducting, and metallic structures.
Nice to have
- Degree or equivalent background in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with electric powertrain or aerospace systems.
- Knowledge of product development, manufacturing processes, and global supply chain management.
- Experience with Jira and Confluence.
- Experience taking aircraft from concept and prototype through certification and mass production.
