TL;DR
Mechanical Design Engineer (Robotics): Designing and developing complex electromechanical hardware and robotic systems for industrial data collection and factory-floor deployment with an accent on rapid prototyping, mechanical analysis, and design for manufacturing. Focus on building and testing prototypes, validating structural, thermal, and tolerance decisions, and scaling designs into reliable high-volume production hardware.

What you will do

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for data collection hardware and robotic devices.
  • Rapidly build, test, and iterate prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining, and manual fabrication.
  • Apply DFM/DFA practices to scale designs from low-volume prototypes to high-volume production.
  • Source components and coordinate with machine shops and contract manufacturers to meet specifications and schedules.
  • Perform tolerance, structural, and thermal analyses, and develop specifications and accelerated lifetime test plans.
  • Collaborate with electrical, software, and industrial design teams to consolidate requirements and integrate mechanical systems.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience, or equivalent hard-tech project experience, building complex electromechanical systems and sensors.
  • Exceptional mechanical intuition and a hands-on approach to solving ambiguous technical problems.
  • High proficiency in SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar mechanical design tools.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping, including 3D printing and machining.
  • Experience designing for volume manufacturing processes such as injection molding and CNC machining.
  • Ability to work with contract manufacturers and iterate quickly in a fast-paced environment.
