TL;DR
Senior Embedded Systems Engineer (Hardware, Firmware) (PCB/FPC, Electronics, C/C++): Leading the architecture, prototyping, and production-ready design of embedded electronic systems with an accent on mixed-signal electronics, sensor interfaces, power systems, and firmware integration. Focus on designing high-density multilayer PCB/FPC layouts, implementing embedded control and communication protocols, and validating complex boards through automated testing and lab debugging.

Location: Bay Area, CA or Redmond, WA, United States

Salary: $80,000–$250,000 per year

Company

Design house with approximately 600 engineers developing connected consumer electronics and IoT products through in-house projects, engineering expertise, and laboratory capabilities.

What you will do

  • Define system architectures and subsystem specifications for embedded electronic products.
  • Design sensor interfaces, analog front ends, data acquisition systems, power management, and battery systems.
  • Create schematics and optimize multilayer, mixed-signal, high-speed PCB and FPC layouts using Altium or Cadence.
  • Develop embedded firmware in C/C++ and implement PID and closed-loop control algorithms.
  • Integrate I2C, SPI, UART, USB, and BLE communication protocols with hardware and software.
  • Automate testing, perform prototype bring-up and validation, and collaborate with mechanical teams and EMS partners on FPC integration, packaging, DFM, and manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, electronics, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • 7–12 years of embedded systems development and electronics design experience, including 5+ years of hands-on PCB design.
  • Strong system-level architecture experience and expertise in analog, digital, mixed-signal, power, signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI/EMC design.
  • End-to-end PCB and FPC design experience, including schematic capture, layout, stack-up, routing, bring-up, rework, and production readiness.
  • Embedded C/C++ development experience with ARM Cortex-M, RTOS, and Linux, plus familiarity with wireless protocols and hardware-software integration.
  • Experience with Altium or Cadence, Python automation, SPICE or control modeling, and laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and DAQ systems.

Nice to have

  • Experience with flexible and rigid-flex PCB design, including bend radius, materials, connectors, stack-up, routing, and mechanical constraints.
  • Experience with high-speed design, signal integrity, power integrity, DFM, manufacturing, and validation across the full product lifecycle.
  • Experience working in cross-functional global teams.

Culture & Benefits

  • Nordic work culture focused on knowledge sharing, collaboration, and work-life balance.
  • Paid time off, vacation, and paid holidays.
  • 401(k) plan with matching, life insurance, FSA, and HSA.
  • Paid parental and bereavement leave, plus an Employee Assistance Program.
  • California positions include long-term and short-term disability insurance.
