TL;DR
Associate Program Manager (Defense Technology): Supporting the planning and execution of complex DoD software programs with an accent on program coordination, financial forecasting, staffing, customer communication, and risk management. Focus on tracking schedules and deliverables, monitoring budgets and resource utilization, coordinating technical and functional teams, and developing toward independent program execution.

Location: Hybrid position based in Arlington, Virginia, requiring at least 3 days in the office. Approximately 10% travel is required. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.

Salary: $74,000–$150,000 per year, with ranges varying by experience, skills, and education.

What you will do

  • Support Program Managers and technical leads with planning and execution across software programs, projects, and technical workstreams.
  • Coordinate engineering, operations, contracts, finance, procurement, security, and other functional organizations.
  • Maintain schedules, milestones, deliverables, dependencies, action items, program documentation, and status reporting.
  • Support financial planning, forecasting, Estimates at Completion, budget monitoring, cost analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Assist with staffing forecasts, resource planning, utilization tracking, and identification of staffing gaps.
  • Coordinate customer reviews, demonstrations, briefings, risk mitigation, issue resolution, and continuous-improvement activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent full-time professional experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience managing and developing complex software systems for the Department of Defense.
  • Experience supporting projects, programs, operations, engineering organizations, government contracting, or similar complex environments.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance and work from the Arlington office at least 3 days per week.

Nice to have

  • Experience with DoD, U.S. Navy, or federal government programs and government-contracting environments.
  • Experience with budgeting, procurement, forecasting, program financial management, or EAC development.
  • Familiarity with Integrated Master Schedules, Work Breakdown Structures, risk management, and program-performance metrics.
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint, Microsoft Project, JIRA, or similar tools.
  • CAPM, PMP, or related project/program-management certification, or interest in obtaining one.
