Location: Irvine, California, United States. The role requires a U.S. Person or lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligibility to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations; a security clearance or eligibility may also be required.

Salary: $125,000–$170,000 USD annually.

What you will do

  • Develop, optimize, and characterize resistance welding process windows using structured DOE methods, including expulsion limits, electrode wear, and design improvements.
  • Apply DFM principles to improve the producibility, reliability, and robustness of welded spaceflight assemblies.
  • Develop, qualify, and maintain weld schedules for battery and power storage system production.
  • Partner with manufacturing teams and technicians to implement process plans, operating procedures, and standardized work instructions.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineering on weld acceptance criteria, nonconformance disposition, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Advance manufacturing reliability through equipment capability studies, poke-yoke strategies, tool improvements, and evaluation of next-generation welding techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience with welding materials and processes, including parallel gap resistance spot welding.
  • Strong knowledge of weld parameter development, metallurgy, weld joint design, and aerospace welding-method tradeoffs.
  • Experience with robotic welding systems, automated welding integration, and resistance weld profile qualification for battery cells and structural components.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis and corrective action methods, including 5 Whys, fishbone, and fault-tree analysis.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools, complex engineering drawings, and GD&T.

Nice to have

  • Background in materials science or the metallurgical behavior of weld joints.
  • Experience interpreting welding standards and supporting WPS and PQR creation and maintenance.
